14 years ago my brother and I joined with colleagues from the Immigration Control Platform to picket the Irish Congress of Trade Unions’ headquarters located in the leafy suburb of Dublin 4 (not for our illustrious trade union commissars to be billeted in a deprived area of Dublin – that of course is a discussion for another day!). On this particular occasion the weather was torrential with heavy rain pouring down non-stop for the entire day. This of course did nothing to dampen our spirits. The purpose of our picket was to protest at the granting of work permits to asylum seekers (over 95% of whom are found to be bogus and should be deported) and to let the ICTU cabal know that they did not speak for us workers as regards mass immigration. The ‘Icky’s’ have been, and continues to this day to be to the fore in propagating the lunacy of mass immigration.
Back and forth we paraded outside the entrance of the ICTU HQ, rain lashing down on us as we displayed our placards and handed out our leaflets outlining the dire consequences that mass immigration and the cheap foreign labour plantation would have on Irish workers. Some passing cars sounded their horns in solidarity with our protest. We handed in our letter of concern to ICTU officials regarding their position and how it would be catastrophic for the workers of this country. How right we were!
Sometime during the picket saw the arrival of a band of anti-Irish AFA, who are connected with outfits such as The SWP, Labour and Sinn Féin, and are the willing puppets for the interests of unscrupulous gombeen employers who delight at the open labour market that pits Irish workers against the workforces of the entire globe for ever-decreasing wages and conditions. This rabble of useful idiots – enforcing the agenda of the big-business planters – commenced their adolescent exhibition of heckling, pushing and assailing, all in a failed bid to intimidate, break up and silence our legitimate, law abiding demonstration. Because of their aggressive tactics we decided to call the Guards. One Guard in particular is deserving of much praise for having endured the torrential downpour to stand between us and ensure that the reds behaved themselves. Now prevented from trying to silence our protest they eventually slithered away.
I have come across this disparate group of eejits on a few occasions since and have often wondered why their criminality and illegal activity is never brought to book. The simple answer to that is that some of them come from the same social background as our liberal mediaocricy. Another is they are a breeding ground for informants. Our security services need them if for nothing else than to inform on their political masters and their comrades[?], or even as an amusing training exercise. By the way the mediaocricy denigrated us in the papers the next day but they did not mention the intimidatory tactics employed by the AFA. Some things never change. I wonder to this day if Gene Kerrigan has come out of his phone box?
